Introducing Lillian Joy Naegle...

She's finally here! Lillian Joy Naegle was born via c-section on September 24, 2008 at 5:28pm. She has been a wonderful baby so far. Dan and I are adjusting to our new roles as parents and are loving every minute of it.

So why the c-section? First of all, we are very grateful that there weren't any complications that led to the c-section. So, here's how everything went down. I had a doctor's appointment Monday (Sept. 22) and everything checked out fine and the doctor gave us the go ahead to check in to the hospital the following night to be induced. Tuesday night at 7pm I finally had my baby shower in Victoria and at midnight we checked in to the hospital (talk about cutting it close!). Wednesday morning the doctor was set to check in on my progress at around 7:30am and break my water. Well, at 7:20am while he was down the hall checking on another patient my water broke on it's own. I guess she wanted to do things on her own! Dan and I spent the rest of the day napping at watching TV (epidurals are GREAT!). My contractions were steady and strong (again, epidurals are great! I didn't feel a thing) but by mid-afternoon I wasn't as far enough along as I should have been considering the strength of my contractions. So after a few hours of no change the doctor decided a c-section was needed. The baby wasn't in any distress at all and I was doing fine as well. It was just to the point where we could have continued to wait, but more than likely nothing would have changed. So at 5pm they prepped me for the c-section and at 5:28pm little Lillian's first cries were heard. She weighed in at 6lbs. 14oz. and measured 18 inches long. She has a full head of her daddy's dark brown hair, and she is absolutely beautiful!

The c-section itself went really well and I was a lot more relaxed than I thought I would be. I've recovered a lot quicker than I thought, as well, and because of that they gave us the go ahead to go home Friday afternoon (a day earlier than usual). My mom met us when we got home from the hospital and she has been here helping me out since then. My dad also came down last weekend to meet his newest granddaughter.

All in all, we are thrilled to finally have Lily here. It still hasn't quite sunk in that we're parents and that she's really ours.

Love,
Dan, Ashleigh and Lily

Yikes Ike!

So Hurricane Ike has decided to completely disrupt my weekend plans. I was supposed to have a doctor's appointment this morning, but it was rescheduled for next Wednesday because of the storm. I was also looking forward to a baby shower Saturday morning which my mom and sisters were planning to attend. But, alas, Ike has thrown those plans out the window as well! As for the actual storm--we are prepared, but not too worried. We have supplies ready for if/when the power goes out and our windows are ready for any damage from falling tree limbs. Lucky for us we are far enough inland that we should be able to avoid the brunt of the storm. We're more worried for our family in Baytown and are keeping them all in our prayers. I've given strict instructions to our baby girl that she'll have to at least wait out the weekend if she has plans for coming early. I have a feeling she'll be a fairly obedient child, but you never know!

Speaking of our baby girl, I can definitely tell she's running out of room. Everything continues to check out as healthy and normal, and for that we are very grateful. I'm still feeling pretty good considering there's only 2 weeks left until my due date. I'm getting a bit uncomfortable and it's getting harder to move around, but other than that I can't really complain.

37 1/2 weeks

As for other news, we finally have the nursery finished and organized enough to post some pictures. We ended up with a lot more room than we thought we'd have. Enjoy :)

We also finally replaced the slipcover on our couch. I was SUPER excited and I really like the way it turned out. It's funny how simple things can totally make your day!

That's the update on the Naegle's. Our next post should be announcing our baby girl!

T minus 6 weeks (give or take)...

Tomorrow I'll be 34 weeks pregnant with only 6 weeks left until my due date. For some reason I have this feeling that she'll be a little early--nothing huge, maybe only a week at the most. I'm not sure why, though. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part! I'm still feeling pretty good for the most part. This past week I've started to really feel how big I am and the "pregnancy waddle" is in full force. I'm definitely a little less stable on my feet, but no big clumsy moments so far!

33 weeks

We've continued getting things ready for our little girl and feel pretty prepared. Though I don't think we'll ever be fully prepared--there's just too many "if's"! I was able to attend a breast-feeding class a couple weeks ago. I didn't learn anything really profound, but it was nice to have more information. I felt kind of bad for the two husbands that attended with their wives. Let's just say there was a lot of squirming in their seats and uncomfortable looks on their faces. They showed a video and it was really funny to see these two guys try to simultaneously pay attention and avert their eyes! Also, this past Saturday Dan and I went to a Prepared Childbirth class. It was an all day class, but the instructor was really entertaining (she even showed a clip from Bill Cosby: Himself). There were only 3 couples there, so it was really laid back and we joked around a lot. I have to pick on Dan and share this funny story, though. It was a childbirth class so, of course, they showed a couple of birthing videos. Dan just so happened to liken these videos to scary movies. They start off all nice and happy; everyone's smiling, there's no worries and happy music playing in the background. Then BAM! There's drama and blood and lots of gruesome images. We all got a big kick out of that. I do have to say that the whole thing reminded me of the "Friends" episode where Chandler, Monica and Rachel watch the birthing video. Let's just say I can totally sympathize now!

Baby Girls

Well, while I'm at it I should go ahead and put a real entry up here.

Pregnancy for me continues to be blissfully uneventful. I'm 30 weeks along today and I'm getting bigger by the day, but thankfully don't have too much discomfort so far. Hopefully this will continue, but it's only going to get hotter and I'm only going to get bigger!

We just finished getting the nursery set up this past week, but have yet to put any finishing touches. I'll post pictures when it's finished enough.

In other news, the Smith family has recently added to its ranks. My brother Bryan and his wife Gabby just welcomed their 3rd child (and first girl), Madison Joy Smith, on July 8th. Dan and I are going to Baytown in a week to meet her for the first time. She's making me anxious to meet my little girl!

Something New...

So I've been on the blog bandwagon for a little while now, but decided I would jump on the blogger.com bandwagon since I like the layout better and most of our friends are on here anyways. So I figured, why not? You'll have to be a little patient with me as I figure everything out.

Here's the link to our old blog for those who would like to know what we've been up to (though there's not much there--I'm not the best at keeping things updated).
